Acne, is also known as acne vulgarisms, is a long term skin disease that occurs when dead skin cells and oil from the skin clog the hair follicles.

Causes

The bottom line is hormones cause acne.  The male hormone Androgen are responsible for causing extra oil production.  Your body produces more androgen hormones as a teenager, under stress, before menstruation, with some dairy products, some medicines and contraceptives, and during and after pregnancy, lack of sleep.

Diet

Diet has a role in acne, though it is rarely food alone that causes acne. Keeping a diary may help you trigger foods that cause a breakout. 1-2 cups of coffee are good as they contain Niacinamide. Green tea is good.
There is more research to suggest that some diets are linked with acne.  Processed refined carbohydrates (sugar, chocolate, sweets, white flour and white pasta) are the foods to avoid or at least go easy on. If you reduce these to 10% of your diet, you will decrease the action of the hormones that make skin oily, and, in turn, reduce acne breakouts.   Taking Omega 3 tablets are thought to boost skin health.

Treatments for Acne

Acne is caused by hormones but there are multiple triggers that can make it worse. Combining treatments, diet, skincare and lifestyle can greatly improve acne, however, no one treatment program will work for everyone.  Effective treatments also reduce the risk of scarring.
Consultation is key to the correct Acne program to work. We offer free consultations.
